Waterfalls on the Cornell Campus
Visit area Wineries, Breweries, and Distilleries

The Cayuga Lake Wine Trail loops around Cayuga Lake, making for a scenic and fun outing tasting the local wines. Only slightly farther away are the Seneca Lake and Keuka Lake Wine Trails, both offering many vineyards to visit.  Ithaca has several breweries: the most well known is the very fun Ithaca Brewery, with a brew-pub and beer garden. Bandwagon Brewpub downtown is a fun place to try some new beers. Hopshire Farm in Dryden is a new brewery in the area, and Rogue's Harbor Inn brews their own beer too!   New cideries are springing up, and two distilleries are nearby as well: Finger Lakes Distilling and Myer Farm Distilling.

Make sure to check out Ithaca Falls, Triphammer Falls, and the Cascadilla Gorge!

Aurora is home to Wells College, founded by Henry Wells of Wells Fargo fame around the same time Ezra Cornell founded Cornell. This picturesque town has the Aurora Inn which serves fine dining, but also the Fargo for more casual fare.  Just north of town is the workshop of the Mackenzie Childs company - many describe the visit like Alice in Wonderland's "stepping through the looking glass!"  The college campus, the town and the workshops are all well worth a visit.

Skaneateles is a charming town with restaurants, shops and elegant homes at the north end of Skaneateles Lake. It's about 45 minutes drive from The Point.

Town of Lansing Parks:
- Ludlowville Falls
- Myers Park
- Salt Point Nature Preserve

Just minutes from our property, in the historic hamlet of Ludlowville (now a part of Lansing) is arelatively unknown, but easily accessed, waterfall of the same name.  Salmon Creek abruptly drops approximately 40 feet from a limestone ledge to form this waterfall.  Easily viewed, the falls are a short walk across a level park lawn from the parking area, and are beautiful in any season.

Myers Park can be seen across a small inlet and boatyard to the north of our property.  It is a quick walk over to the park, where there are playgrounds for the kids, more lakeshore to explore, food concessions, and watersport rentals.

Canoe/Kayak/Sunfish Sailboat/Paddleboat/SUP Rentals

While 2 kayaks and 1 SUP are available for use at The Point, if additional watercraft are needed to accommodate your party, canoes, kayaks and stand-up paddle board (SUP) rentals are available in the summer at a concession at the Lansing town park, literally a 10 minute walk from The Point on flat pavement.  Puddle Dockers in Ithaca also rents kayaks. Canoes/kayaks are an excellent way to explore the lakeshore; if you are slow and quiet, who knows what critters you'll see!  You'll see perspectives and animals you'd never see otherwise.  Salmon Creek (which forms Myers Point through sediment deposit) is navigable to kayaks and canoes about 1/3 mile in from the lake, and is just a 5 minute paddle from The Point.

If you are a birder, the Montezuma Wildlife Refuge is a must stop!  At the north end of Cayuga Lake, it boasts 1600 acres of wetlands that host a rich diversity of waterfowl, waterbirds, and other wildlife.  The 3.5 mile Wildlife Drive is a one-way auto tour that provides many opportunities to observe and photograph wildlife.  The drive is open most of the year, although it may not be passable during certain periods in winter.  Hikers and walkers can enjoy the 2 mile Esker Brook Trail and the 3/4 mile Oxbow Trail.

Be sure to check out the following:

*  Taughannock Falls State Park (on the west side of Cayuga Lake)

At the Ithaca Farmer's Market you will find find not only the fruits and vegetables that are in season, but also arts and crafts and a wide variety of ethnic cuisine. It is a bustling scene with a smattering of much of what Ithaca has to offer.  A great place to grab breakfast or lunch on the weekend, and shop for the evening dinner at the same time.  In the warmer months, boat tours of the lake depart from here.   It's definitely worth checking out.

The Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology is the pre-eminent location for studying birds in the USA. They have a beautiful building that is definitely worth a visit, with a wall of windows opening on to a several acre pond and microphones to catch the bird calls and binoculars to spot them. There are also several excellent walking trails in Sapsucker Woods which surrounds the Visitor's Center.
